WEEMS—Anne D. Spangler, 81, of Weems passed away peacefully on February 18, after a three-year battle with a rare blood cancer (Meylofibrosis).
She was surrounded by family as she met her husband of 57 years, Joe Spangler, who she said was waiting for her around the corner.
Anne never met a stranger. She welcomed everyone into her life, and we all had fun!
Born into a family of 11, Anne has always taken care of family, friends and patients. She was an x-ray technician at Rappahannock General Hospital in Kilmarnock, since it opened in 1977. She worked there for 35 years.
She volunteered for Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and housed medical students that were completing their rotation at RGH.
She is survived by her children, Charles (Catherine), Elley Kelly (Rick Kelly) and Sam (Celeste); grandchildren, Emily (Giovanni Esposito), Noah, Ally, Hewson, Carter and Mallory; and her dachshund, Miss Fancy. She is also survived by her sisters and brothers, Arlene, Polly, Betsy, Peter, Jimmy, Mary Rose, Bob, Kassie, Patti and Tom.
Like our father, mom donated her body to science, to continue helping others. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday March 11, at the Hilton Richmond Hotel & Spa/Short Pump – Henrico Room,12042 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA 23233.
In lieu of flowers, blood or monetary contributions may be made to the American Red Cross.
