County continues to hold 57 dogs; hearing is now April 3

HEATHSVILLE—Misdemeanor charges have been placed regarding Northumberland County’s seizure of 58 dogs at a Burgess residence two weeks ago.

Meanwhile, a hearing regarding the county’s civil suit seeking custody of the animals and the ability to adopt out 57 of the dogs has been continued for a second time, according to Northumberland County Sheriff Johnny Beauchamp. 

The owner of the dogs, Phyllis D. Swift of Burgess, has been charged with 58 misdemeanors of animal cruelty and served one summons for pet shop owner providing inadequate care. 

Fifty-eight dogs of varying ages and breeds were seized by Northumberland County Animal Control Officers when a search warrant was executed at 38 Blundons Road, Burgess….
