Labor Day art show winners announced

Judge James Warwick Jones awarded Best in Show to “What Was in that Pot?” by Laurie Breakwell.

The 62 annual Labor Day Art Show will continue through September 23 at the RAL Art Center, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

This event opened on Wednesday, August 30, with 137 pieces of artwork, reported committee co-chairman Juli Schuszler. Artwork in the show includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, fused glass, photography and fiber art.

A special reception for the artists and an awards ceremony was held Friday, September 1, at the RAL Art Center. Executive director Sharon Stone and Schuszler gave a visual presentation. Judge James Warwick Jones, an award-winning painter, art instructor and former director of the Charles H. Taylor Art Center, presented his comments during the awards presentation.

This event was followed by a First Friday Reception where the public was invited to view and admire all of the exciting work and its winners on display in the Main Gallery, said Schuszler.

Concurrently, the Co-op Artists Exhibition is on display in the Jane Stouffer exhibit room. Both of these exhibits can be viewed from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. While viewing the Labor Day Art Show, visitors can vote for their favorite….
