Kilmarnock considers $4.6 million budget

KILMARNOCK—The Kilmarnock town council on Monday conducted a public hearing on a proposed budget of $4,681,785 for the fiscal year beginning July 1.

Mayor Mae Umphlett said the town budget will be adopted at the June 19 council meeting.

The proposed budget includes a general fund of $2,990,382, water fund of $513,727 and sewer fund of $1,177,676.

As proposed, the general fund budget is based on anticipated operating revenues of $2,462,363 and use of a carryover fund balance totaling $528,019.

Anticipated tax collections include real estate, $212,000; public service corporation, $6,000; personal property, $18,000; local sales, $130,000; utility, $48,000; consumption, $10,000; bank stock, $315,000; cigarette, $115,000; lodging, $118,000; meals, $630,000; and communications, $75,000.

The budget would not require a tax rate increase.
