Lancaster County Circuit Court Report

LANCASTER—The Lancaster County Circuit Court convened Friday, June 7, with the Hon. R. Michael McKenney presiding.

In the case of William K. Downing of Reedville, charged with a felony for selling/giving cocaine, a bench trial was set for July 19.

Jerel L. Newton of Kilmarnock pleaded guilty to a felony for possession of a Schedule I/II substance. He was sentenced to 10 years, all of which were suspended with five years of probation. He also was ordered to pay $560 in court costs and $100 in restitution.

In the case of Maria F. Thompson of Kilmarnock, previously found not guilty of probation violations by reason of insanity, a review hearing was scheduled for December 6.

In the case of Rosa M. Turner of Smithfield, charged with two felonies for violating probation, at a hearing to review restitution, those charges were dismissed.

Brian L. Brooks of Water View was found guilty of two felonies and one misdemeanor for violating probation. On the first felony charge he was sentenced to four years and five months with four years, four months and 16 days suspended. On the second felony he was given five years with three years suspended and on the misdemeanor he was sentenced to 12 months with 11 months and 16 days suspended. He also was ordered to pay $365 in court costs.

In the case of Charlotte A. Blevins of Lancaster, appealing a General District Court decision seizing her animals, a trial was scheduled for July 12.
