School superintendent shares updated strategic plan for Lancaster schools

KILMARNOCK—After a year of input, discussion and work, superintendent Jessica Davis on July 8 shared the Lancaster County School Division’s vision of the future and plans to set up students for success.

Davis said the Six Year Strategic Plan represented “a lot of behind-the-scenes work” composed of staff, family and community surveys as well as focus groups. She added that her role on the planning team that created the county’s Lancaster 2035 strategic plan meant the plans were “very well aligned.”

The key strategies discussed include:

• Positive and safe learning environments. While the division would continue to focus on building safety measures and procedures, there would also be a focus on creating a learning environment that is free of distractions while promoting positive relationships between students as well as students and staff.

• Post secondary success. “We are preparing our students in a meaningful way” so they have plans “whether it’s enlisting in the military, entering the workforce right away, going to a community college, trade school or four-year college,” Davis said.
