
Although high school athletes have been conditioning for several weeks, the official start of fall sports practice begins this week.
- The Lancaster High School Marching Red Devils Band will hold practices from 8-10 a.m. July 29 through August 1 and August 5 through 8.
- LHS golf team will meet for a first practice at 3 p.m. July 30 at Golden Eagle Golf Course, 364 Clubhouse Road, Irvington. The golf team will open its season August 14 against Mathews at Piankatank River Golf Course.
- The sideline cheer team will hold tryouts starting from 4-6 p.m. August 1 at Lancaster High School (LHS), 8815 Mary Ball Road, Lancaster.
- Also on August 1, football practice will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. at LHS. The varsity team will host its first scrimmage at 6 p.m. August 16 against King & Queen. The team has a second scrimmage scheduled at 6 p.m. August 22 against Northampton at LHS. The Red Devils will open regular season play August 30 at Charles City.
- The junior varsity and varsity girls volleyball teams will hold tryouts from 5-7 p.m. starting August 5 at LHS. The teams will have pre-season scrimmages August 20 at Bruton and August 20 at Mathews. The volleyball teams will open regular season play August 29 at King William.
- Also on August 5, all boys and girls cross country runners will begin practice from 6-7:30 p.m at LHS.
All athletes are reminded to have a completed
Virginia High School League (VHSL) physical form,
dated on or after May 1, 2024, before reporting to practice,
said athletic director Chuck Parrish.
The school has already offered several free physical days at the Northern Neck-Middlesex Free Health Clinic in Kilmarnock, he said. VHSL physical forms are available on the VHSL website or at the school.
