
WEEMS—Oren Mannen Freeman, 81, of Salem, S.C., and formerly of Weems, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2024 at his home.
He was born on July 17, 1942, in Clarksburg, W.Va., to the late Denzil and Weltha Freeman.
Oren was preceded in death by his son, Dwayne Freeman; granddaughter, Deanna Freeman; and his three brothers, Edwin, Daymen and Arnol Freeman.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 58 years, Frances Mae Griffin Freeman; three children, Douglas Freeman of Kilmarnock, Darrell Freeman (Traci) of Cocoa, Fla., and Dawn Thompsen (Craig) of Kilmarnock; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who adored him. Oren is also survived by two brothers, Scott Freeman of Pickens, S.C., and Toney Freeman of Salem, S.C.; and three sisters, Pam Richards of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Denise Burnside of Jarvisville, W.Va., and Penny Jones Freeman in Salem, W.Va.; along with several brothers- and sisters-in-law. He will be missed by many, especially his wife and children.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 31, at White Stone Church of the Nazarene in White Stone. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
