School walls going up, wells going in

After nearly six months of construction, the future Lancaster High School is beginning to take shape. This concrete wall on the rear of the new school is the first of many walls going up in the coming months. When completed, this area, referred to as Level 0, will house classrooms, a commons area and access to outdoor spaces. At the same time, wells for the geothermal system are being drilled. When complete, they will be under the parking lot. The two ponds in the foreground are stormwater management retention ponds and not part of the final plan. Photo by Travis Pittman

According to director of operations and project management Travis Pittman, the project is on schedule. The next big milestone will take place in late October—the pouring of the concrete base for Level 1, where the auditorium, band room, administrative offices and gymnasiums will be. The school is slated to open for the 2026-27 school year. Rendering courtesy of Lancaster County Public Schools
