
IRVINGTON—Susan Boyd Roberts Reed, 95, of Irvington passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on September 3, 2024.
Born on October 30, 1928, to James Walker Roberts and Elsie Palmer Brown (Betty) Roberts, she was the devoted and beloved wife of A. Crenshaw Reed Jr. until his death in 2016; the mother of Anne MacPherson Reed Harper, A. Crenshaw Reed III and James Roberts Reed; the mother-in-law of the late John Preston Harper Jr., Carolyn Elizabeth Powers Reed (Missy) and Michelle Moody Reed; the grandmother of Susan Leigh Harper Gray (Seth), Elizabeth Lloyd Harper Garrison (Dave), A. Crenshaw Reed IV (Emily), Cullen William Reed (Abby), Lea Bentley Reed Lemon (Trevor), Caroline Boyd Reed and Anna Walker Reed; and the great-grandmother of Harmon Catherine Leigh Gray, Flora Palmer Emmel Gray, Harper Kaye Garrison, Charles Mack Garrison, Sutton Elizabeth Reed, Teagan Marie Reed, A. Crenshaw Reed V, Chessa Rosalynn Reed, Amelia June Reed, Timothy James Lemon, William Lee Lemon and Freya Lillian-Reed McMullen. Her quiver was full, as was her life!
Sue attended Meadowbrook School and was a graduate of Granby High School, Norfolk, and Mount Vernon Junior College, Washington, D.C. She served on the Altar Guild and the Shepherd’s Corner Board at the Church of the Good Shepherd, Norfolk, and on the Altar Guild at Wicomico Parish Church, Burgess. She served as vice president of The Junior League of Norfolk-Virginia Beach and as a volunteer with the JLNVB and with Lee’s Friends. She was a member of The Colonial Dames of America, participating in both the Norfolk-Tidewater and Northern Neck Chapters.
She served as chief cook and bottle washer, tutor and mentor to her three children and doting Meemaw to her seven grandchildren.
Burial will be private. A celebration of Sue’s life will be held at a date to be determined.
Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
