LANCASTER—Earl Barton, 68, of Lancaster passed away on September 12, 2024, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
“The measure of a man is in the lives he’s touched” and Earl was a friend to many as he never met a stranger.
He loved to talk as much as he loved to dance, fish and work with his tractor and drive his truck. He loved being a father, working on race cars with his son, Josh and coaching baseball with his son Nate. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He often told everyone how fortunate he was to marry his high school sweetheart, “Jo.”
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Barton Sr. and Adelaide Davis Barton; and his sisters, Kathryn and Linda Barton.
Earl is survived by his wife of 46 years, JoAnn Bussells Barton; sons, Joshua Earl Barton (Karen) and Nathan Pollard Barton (Lisa); grandchildren, Hannah, Cole and Bryce Barton and Chase, Cody and Dylan Withers; sisters, Joan Barton and Barbara Gifford; his nieces and nephews; and his dog, “Stella.”
Earl was a graduate of Lancaster High School class of 1975, and he worked for Phillip Morris for over 30 years. Earl was also a member and deacon of Corrottoman Baptist Church in Ottoman and a member of the Northern Neck Shaggers.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. on October 4 at Corrottoman Baptist Church, 48 Ottoman Ferry Road, Lancaster. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall.
