
HAGUE—Maryus Littleton “Meredith” Dodson, 89, of Hague, formerly of Miskimon, died peacefully on September 14, 2024, surrounded by his family.
Meredith was born on March 18, 1935, to Yates and Bessie Dodson in Lancaster.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, J.W. Dodson and Grayson Dodson.
Meredith loved meeting people and over the years worked for Kilmarnock Planing Mill, Indian Creek Box and Lumber Company, Lawson Transportation and The United States Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dalghren Division, until his retirement in 1982. Meredith and his wife Deloris, were owners of Dodson’s Auto Sales in Miskimon and Haynesville, until his retirement. Meredith was a former member of the Heathsville Masonic Lodge.
Meredith is survived by his wife of 69 years, Deloris George Dodson; his son, Michael E. Dodson; his daughter, Sandra D. Longest and her husband, George; grandchildren, Brittany Dodson Gawen and her husband Donald, Woody Johnson Jr. and his wife Kelley, Chris Longest and his wife Tiffany and Jason Longest.
Meredith always had a smile and love for his great-grandchildren, Camden, Caroline and Thomas Gawen, Mason and Owen Johnson, Millie, Lillie and Toby Longest; and his beloved dog, Princess.
Meredith is also survived by his nieces and nephews and special family friend, Ed Cockrell. He was lovingly cared for by his caregivers Kim Jenkins, Janice Cox and Tamara Gray.
Pallbearers are Randy Passagaluppi, Donald Gawen, Ed Cockrell, Chris Longest, Jason Longest, Robert Clarke Jr., Chris Clarke, Gary Clarke and Honorary Pallbearer Robert B. Conley.
Family received friends from 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, September 18. The funeral followed at 11 a.m. at Welch’s Funeral Home in Warsaw.
A private family graveside internment service was held at Providence Baptist Church.
