BETHESDA, MD—Charlotte Virginia Ostdiek, age 98, of Bethesda, Maryland, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on November 11, 2024.

Born on December 29, 1925, in Kilmarnock, Charlotte was the beloved daughter of the late Virginia and Garnett Claybrook. She is also predeceased by her beloved husband of 58 years, Arthur Joseph Ostdiek.

Charlotte attended James Madison University and moved to Washington, D.C., with her first cousin to work in the Public Health Service, where she met the love of her life “her Joe.” They were married in 1947 at Saint Matthews Cathedral, Washington, D.C.

Charlotte is survived by four daughters, Judith Corcoran (William) of Bluffton, S.C., Kathleen Dugan (Joseph) of Rockville, Md., Mary Josephine Barrick of Bethesda, Md., and Elizabeth Lewis (Mark) of Mount Pleasant, S.C.; and by her 13 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Charlotte will forever be remembered for her love of life and family, believing nothing to be more important. A viewing will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, November 21, at Pumphrey Funeral Home in Bethesda, Md. A mass will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, November 22, at Saint Elizabeth’s Catholic Church in Rockville, Md. A graveside celebration follows at the Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Md.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
