REEDVILLE—Carl Owen Lawson, 85, of Reedville passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
Owen was predeceased by his parents, Agnes Rock Lawson and Clifford Owen Lawson; a stepmother, Myra Lou Lawson; an infant daughter; and a special cousin, Sadie Rock Dameron.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 64 years, Katherine Mae (Bramble) Lawson; daughter, Denise Suzette Swann (Paul); granddaughters, Paula Renee Swann, Carla Danielle Bojorquez (Carlos) and Amber Elizabeth Taylor (JR); great-grandchildren, Jose Carlos Reis Middleton, Baylin Chandrey Taylor, Alden Jameson Taylor, Millie Suzette Taylor and Addelyn Louise Taylor; brother, Robert Junior Lawson (Pat); and one sister, Shirley Lawson Wilkins.
Owen grew up in Greenfield, catching soft crabs on the Little River and hunting with his dog Fluffy. He later worked on the menhaden fishing vessels, the Bruster and the Margaret, until he built his own boat, the Kath-De-O, which he crabbed and oystered from on the Chesapeake Bay until his retirement.
He loved his poodles and all dogs, fishing, watching westerns, singing bass and listening to country music at Donks Theater in Mathews. He loved to talk and would strike up a conversation with anyone nearby. You could hear his voice and laughter a mile away. He always made homemade clam chowder on Christmas and loved seafood.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to an animal shelter of your choice or to the Alzheimers Association. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date.
Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
