The who and how behind a local small business success

Family members behind one of the Northern Neck’s largest and most successful Black-owned businesses will provide insights into the founding and growth of their home-grown business at the opening session of the 2025 Sundays at Two series. The program will be offered from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, January 12, at the Lancaster Community Library (LCL), 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock.

The four Veneys, Melvin and wife Caroline, with sons Daryl and Dwayne, will address the formation and evolution of Veney’s Heating and Air Conditioning, 511 South Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Company founders Melvin and Caroline, both raised in Weems, together built the company from scratch beginning about 45 years ago, reported library director Alice Cooper. Both had attended Lancaster High School and Melvin served in the Army during the Vietnam War before completing his education. Their sons, Daryl and Dwayne, also graduated from LHS, and each trained in heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) work in Hampton….
