Celtic service slated Sunday

Firefly expert Jan Towne will serve as reflector.

Grace Church, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock, will host a Celtic service at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, February 9.

The beginning of February marks the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. Celtic traditions celebrate two festivals at this time, reported team leader Laura Rowe

The first is Imbolc, the celebration of St. Brigid, the patroness of Ireland. As the days continue to gain more light, and the ground becomes ready for planting, the ewes have become pregnant, and lambing will begin soon.

The second festival is Candlemas, February 2, which is 40 days after the Feast of the Nativity. We light candles to signify the….
