Wednesday, March 5, is Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the 40 days of Lent.
Considered a holy day, ashes are imposed on the forehead in the form of a cross with the spoken words, “Remember that you are dust and to dust you shall return.”
In Western Christian denominations, Ash Wednesday is observed as a day of repentance, often with fasting and prayer. All who come will be offered ashes regardless of denomination or faith-based beliefs.
