Lancaster wrestler River Diaz places fifth at state tournament

River Diaz had a plan and he stuck to it.
River Diaz fulfilled his goal of making it to the podium by finishing fifth in his weight class at the Class 1 wrestling tournament. The Lancaster High School junior had set his goal early in the season to make it to the podium at the Virginia High School League Class 1 wrestling championships, and he did just that with a fifth place finish in his weight class on March 1 at Virginia High School in Bristol.
Diaz, who finished 24-11 on the season, won a major decision, 13-2, over Jessie Monastyrly of Mathews in the 150-pound fifth-place match….
