LANCASTER—With the recent ordinance change requiring special exceptions for unhosted short-term rentals, public hearings on the topic have become quite common. At the February 27 meeting of the Lancaster board of supervisors, four requests were heard, but only two were approved as supervisors tabled decisions on the others to ensure compliance with the new law.
In the tabled requests, supervisors took issue with how many bedrooms were being advertised on rental sites versus how many bedrooms the septic is permitted to accommodate.
Nicholas Louka and Patrick Louka operate an unhosted short-term rental at 921 Blueberry Point Road in White Stone. The septic permit was issued for four bedrooms which translates to eight adults and their children according to county planner Andrea Pruett. However, the house has been marketed on rental sites as a five bedroom home.
