Northumberland Future Problem Solvers compete at conference

Northumberland students Bay Wiggins, Tahi Wiggins and Abby Jennings recently attended the Future Problem Solving 2017 International Conference at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosses. They joined talented students from all over the world competing in various creative writing and problem solving competitions, reported gifted services coordinator Shauna McCranie.

After qualifying with their individual scenarios at the Virginia State Bowl, T. Wiggins, B. Wiggins and Jennings represented Virginia in the scenario writing competition for the senior, middle and junior divisions, respectively, said McCranie.

This competition involved being randomly placed on a team with two to three other students of the same division, reading a future scene about the topic, Biosecurity, and then composing a cohesive, multi-part story stemming from the future scene, she said. These three to four student teams then completed a story within the two-hour time limit.
