LANCASTER—During updates at the April 14 school board meeting, principals Keegan Walters and Mike Myers talked about plans for the upcoming end-of-year testing and senior celebrations.
At Lancaster Elementary School, Walters said, “our students in third through seventh grade will take the reading SOL on April 29 and the math SOL on May 1 and our fourth and fifth graders will take Virginia studies and science, respectively, on May 6.”
He said they have been “sharing out SOL tips and tools of the day on our morning announcements” and sharing the screens of the testing platform so students can get comfortable with the process before testing. An SOL pep rally and celebration is scheduled for April 25.
Walters said LES ranked 15th out of 70 participating schools in the Comprehensive Instructional Program for reducing the number of K-2 students who were labeled “hi-risk” and had a reading plan. “This told us what we already knew from our data. We’re seeing less students from the start of the year in the hi-risk band, but it was encouraging to see where we stacked up against other school division….
