HEATHSVILLE—According to the latest sales study, the average Northumberland homeowner will see property values increase around 70% in this year’s reassessment, reported assessor Fred Pearson. “I’ve been working off and on for Northumberland County for over 35 years. This is the largest increase I’ve ever seen.”
Pearson shared these comments in a presentation to supervisors on Thursday, August 14.
Pearson said his methodology was to look at property sales and compare those to the assessed value. “Anytime you get these large increases, it’s rough and it’s going to be the roughest reassessment you’ve ever had. You might have more appointments than you’ve ever had, but my job is to reflect market value.”
