Northumberland schools finance facilitator addresses priorities for record keeping and document organization

HEATHSVILLE—As Northumberland County Public Schools are working to improve their financial situation, pro-bono finance facilitator Karen Pica outlined a list of related organizational priorities at the Monday, October 6, school board meeting.

According to Pica, she’s been sorting through several years of improperly documented records. She is working through an eight-inch stack of invoices in order to get financial records sorted appropriately, she said.

Pica indicated her priorities include ensuring pay and benefits are up to date, addressing backlog in vendor payments, addressing backlog in revenue deposits and assignments, completing an accurate annual state financial report, verifying submission and/or submit federal, state and VEC taxes, and assessing policies and practices against forensic audit….
