LIVELY—Melvin Gene Wilson, 83, of Lively went to be with the Lord on October 17, 2025.
Gene was welcomed to heaven by his parents, Nellie Wilmer Wilson and William Woodrow Wilson; his wife, Peggy Haynie Wilson; and his son, Christopher Todd Wilson. He was also preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Betsy Snead and Shirley Haynie; as well as brothers-in-law, Sonny Haynie and Tim Giese.
He leaves behind his daughter, Michelle Giese (Craig); his beloved granddaughter, Madison; and siblings, William “Bill” Wilson and Patsy Wilson Giese; brothers-in-law, Donald Haynie and Dan Snead; as well as his nephew and nieces, Richard Haynie, Kim Haynie, Stephanie Yucius, Tag Giese and Marie Hoyle; and multiple great nieces and nephews.
Gene was born and raised in Lively, where he started work cutting grass and working at the Rappahannock Record. He left briefly to live in Richmond after marrying, where he worked for Holly Farms and the Department of Motor Vehicles. He and Peggy returned to Lively to raise their family. Gene then worked for the Virginia Department of Taxation as a state auditor until retiring.
He enjoyed gardening, hunting, baseball, softball and spending time with his family.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, October 24, at Lebanon Baptist Church, Alfonso.
