Miko Layne of Middlesex beat Headley Bowis of West Point by three seconds to finish as the individual medalist in the Region 1A girls cross country meet at West Point Country Club on Thursday, October 30.
Despite Layne’s 21:08 finish as the regional champion, West Point claimed the next three spots and had all five scorers place among the top 10 for a team low 27 points to win the regional team championship.
Middlesex was runner-up with 50 points; Northampton third, 62; and Mathews fourth, 81.
Bowis ran the 3.1-mile race in 21:11, while teammates Natalie Fulks and Anna Jenkins finished neck-and-neck in third and fourth places, respectively. Fulks ran 21:42 and Jenkins, 21:43.
Keichan Layne had the second best finish for the Chargers, placing sixth, 22:09.
