Northumberland senior Tyreek Lundy was honored as the Region 1A player of the year in boys basketball and NHS coach Kyle Jones was selected by peers as the coach of the year.

Lundy, who surpassed 1,500 career points this season, helped lead the Indians to an 18-4 overall mark as the regional champion and a Virginia High School League Class 1 state quarterfinalist. Rappahannock County narrowly edged the Indians, 62-60, in the first round of the state tournament.

Lundy was joined on the All-Region 1A first team roster by junior NHS teammate JD Barber and the Indians placed one on the second team in junior Lyndon Williams.

Lancaster, which lost to Northumberland in the region semifinals, filled two spots on the region first team in seniors Jamarcus Russell and Antonio Tomlin. LHS senior Xavier Sutton was named to the second team.

The first team also included Northampton freshman Traquan Coston and sophomore Jasheem Collins; Rappahannock senior Michael Ball; and Middlesex junior Devonte Griffin.

Others named to the second team were Northampton seniors Malique Collins and Antoine Horsley; Colonial Beach senior Zackary Papanicolas; Middlesex junior Henry Fleet; West Point senior Terique Graham; and Chincoteague junior Austin Adams.
