Painting and rudder work keeps Somers project crews busy

FAIRPORT —As spring breaks, volunteers with the Reedville Fishermen’s Museum are beginning to put the historic skipjack Claud W. Somers back together. She has been on the hard at Jennings Boatyard in Fairport since December for an extensive refit.

In recent weeks, Amy and Guy Geisel sanded the hull in preparation for painting and Dave Croy and Jorge Bermudez painted the topsides white. Steve Heare replaced two old bilge pumps with new UL-listed pumps as required by the Coast Guard.

The push boat Spat II, which provides propulsion to the Somers when she isn’t under sail, also is getting….
