IRVINGTON—The Irvington Planning Commission on Tuesday, April 7, discussed potential capital improvement projects ahead of council’s 2026-27 budget planning workshops.
According to chairman Tom Chapman, the major opportunity to tackle a long-standing goal through capital improvements would be the creation of a town-owned storage facility for town property, including seasonal flags and decorations.
Land behind the Steamboat Era Museum recently was purchased by Phil Robinson and Heather Sheehan, and they have offered to sell the lot to the town for storage space for about $85,000, said Chapman.
In his proposed draft capital improvement budget, funds from the 2025-26 capital budget could be used to acquire the property, with about $110,000 of the 2026-27 budget going towards the building of a storage facility, he said.
The lack of town-owned storage space has been an ongoing issue, said Chapman.
Other items for consideration include environmental assessments for potential town center sewer, estimated $10,000. Additionally, an estimated $30,000 is being submitted for consideration for increased traffic calming measures. Some of this amount could be sourced from Virginia Department of Transportation funding, he said.
