LANCASTER—The Lancaster County Circuit Court convened for term day on Friday, April 24, with the Hon. John S. Martin presiding.
In the case of David S. Benson of Heathsville, appealing a General District Court misdemeanor conviction for non-compliance with Virginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (VASAP), a status hearing was scheduled for July 24.
In the case of Richard A Grimm, no address given, charged with a felony for malicious wounding, an arraignment was continued to July 24.
In the case of Donovan R. Gregory of Lancaster, charged with a felony for violating probation, a trial was scheduled for May 22.
In the case of Quinton A. Hudnall, no address given, charged with felonies for other forgery/uttering and other forgery, employing as true, an arraignment was continued to July 24.
In the case Matthew Q. Rosner, no address given, charged with two felonies for violating probation, a show cause hearing was continued to July 24.
In the case of Clifton O. Saul of Heathsville, charged with a felony for violating probation, an arraignment was continued to July 24.
In the case of Brittany M. Stewart of Newport News, charged with a felony for destruction of property, a felony for unauthorized use of a vehicle, two felonies and one misdemeanor for deferred disposition violations, a felony for violating probation and a misdemeanor for non-compliance with VASAP, an arraignment was continued to July 24.
In the case of Joshua L. Tice of Kilmarnock, charged with felonies for unauthorized use of a vehicle and violating probation, a status hearing was scheduled for May 8.
In the case of Donald D. Vaughan, no address given, charged with four felony counts of violating probation, an arraignment was continued to July 24.
In the case of Jerod S. Gamble of Hampton, charged with two felonies for selling a Schedule I/II substance, a capias hearing was continued to July 24.
Ashli J. Lyons of Richmond, who previously pleaded guilty to a felony for intent to sell stolen property greater than $1,000, was given a deferred disposition and a hearing was scheduled for October 23.
Tiffany K. Baugh of White Stone was found guilty of a felony for violating probation and given a four-year, five-month suspended sentence with $193 in court costs and 12 months of probation upon release.
In the case of Russell Dodson of Tappahannock, charged with two felonies for violating probation, those charges were dismissed.
In the case of Justin W. Wilmouth of Lancaster, charged with a felony for violating probation, a show cause hearing was continued to May 8.
In the case of Kavon N. Kelley of White Stone, charged with a felony for malicious wounding, a trial was scheduled for May 22.
In the case of Jerkese R. Ball of Lancaster, charged with two felonies for manufacturing/distributing a Schedule I/II substance, third-plus offense, a status hearing was scheduled for July 24.
In the case of Ana C. Carrillo of Dutton, charged with a felony for violating probation, a show cause hearing was continued to June 26.
Latraven D. Rich of Warsaw, charged with a felony for manufacturing/distributing a Schedule I/II substance, second offense, was placed into drug court. Rich also was charged with a felony for selling/distributing methamphetamine, but that charge was nolle prossed.
In the case of Jerrick D. Saunders of Lancaster, charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors for violating probation and a misdemeanor for trespassing, a show cause hearing was scheduled for May 22.
Clifton B. Tomlin of Burgess pleaded guilty to a felony for failing to appear and was sentenced to four years, two of which were suspended.
In the case of Cleveland M. Rice of Lancaster, charged with a felony for strangling with wound or injury as a result, a trial was scheduled for May 22.
Grand jury
A grand jury convened on Friday, April 24, and issued the following true bills of indictment:
• Matthew L. Abbott of Lancaster was charged with felonies for entering a house to commit assault and battery, destruction of property and strangling with wound or injury as a result. Trials were scheduled for May 8 and 9.
• Andre M. Jones of Lancaster was charged with a felony for assault on a law enforcement officer. A trial was scheduled for May 8.
• Carrie M. Crowell of Weems was charged with a felony for grand larceny and a trial was scheduled for May 22. She also was charged with a felony for unauthorized use of a vehicle and an arraignment was scheduled for May 8.
• Louis C. Johnson Jr. of Lancaster was charged with felonies for malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, first offense.
• Stephen L. Russell, no address given, was charged with grand larceny. An arraignment was scheduled for May 8.
• Derek Shipman, no address given, was charged with a misdemeanor for DWI, first offense, blood alcohol content of .15-.20%. An arraignment was scheduled for May 8.
• David C. Taylor, no address given, was charged with a felony for destruction of property. An arraignment was scheduled for May 8.
Reminder, those charged with alleged crimes are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
