Art Talks will host floral-loving friends

Botanical artist Anne Blackwell Thompson will speak at 1 p.m. Monday, March 27, at the Rappahannock Art League Studio Gallery, 19 North Main Street, Kilmarnock.

Thompson has had significant training in studio art and art history, but her love for the natural world led to the spawn of Blackwell Botanicals in 2010, reported Agnes Carter. She collects blooms, foliage, water plants and vines from swamps, the ocean, gardens and countryside to preserve them using centuries-old traditions she learned in Italy.

Her artistic presentation and passion to preserve beautiful flora enables her to create one-of-a-kind compositions that are sophisticated works of art, said Carter. Blackwell Botanicals has been featured in magazines such as Veranda, Virginia Living and Victoria.

Thompson has worked with private collectors and landscape architects and on commercial projects throughout the country.

She also will have some of her creations to view and for sale.
