Harold Hinson

A Special Evening With… series will feature author Harold Hinson at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 20 at the Lancaster Community Library, 16 Town Centre Drive, Kilmarnock. He will discuss his book, The Hinson Boys of St. John’s Street.

This is the second program in the series and is co-sponsored with the Lancaster Virginia Historical Society, reported library director Alice Cooper.

An overview of Hinson family history is part of the presentation, which will touch on a book written by Robert R. Harper in 1992 entitled Richmond County Virginia, 1692-1992. Hinson’s ancestors arrived in Richmond County in the mid-17th century and worked as indentured servants for Lord Fauntleroy.

Hinson is a retired senior design engineer and an inventor with two U.S. patents. He is a former candidate for the Richmond County Board of Supervisors. He has served on numerous boards including Habitat for Humanity, the YMCA, the Rotary Club and the Northern Neck of Virginia Historical Society.

Harvey Lee Hinson is his identical twin brother. Harold Hinson’s favorite quote is: “What makes you think you can do that? What makes you think I can’t? Been that way all my life!” The Hinson Boys of St. John’s Street was written partly in response to being told for years that he “should write a book.”

The program is free. It also will be streamed on Facebook Live and can be viewed afterwards on the Library’s YouTube channel.
