RICHMOND—The Virginia State Police on Thursday, December 3, confirmed the identity of the pilot killed in a November 24 plane crash in Deltaville.
The pilot has been positively identified by the state medical examiner’s office as Carl Macon Smith, 71, of White Stone, according to a VSP press release.
The VSP also verified there was only one occupant in the plane, the pilot. The plane was identified by the Federal Aviation Administration as a Beechcraft Bonanza V35. The crash remains under investigation.
Smith was an attorney, Navy fighter pilot, Chief of Staff for the Senate Armed Services Committee and founder of the Save the Rappahannock Coalition.
