KILMARNOCK—Mrs. Barbara Lee George, 84, of Kilmarnock peacefully passed away on September 6, 2025.
She is survived by her only daughter, Sheila Tomlin (Tony); grandchildren, Jasmyn and Antonio Tomlin; brother, Bud Hearold; and a host of nieces and nephews. She also leaves to cherish her memory, close friends, Darlene Griffith, Patricia Davenport and Judy Hammell.
Along with her father, Allie G. Lee, and mother, Lena E. Kellum-Lee, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Bayne George; three brothers, Allie G. Lee, Jr., Howard Lee and Frank Goldburn Lee, Sr.; and three sisters, Helen Laird Dorman, Peggy George and Essie Jones.
In her early life, Mrs. George was well known for babysitting and housecleaning, along with assembling and decorating Christmas trees. This hobby of hers led her to put up neighbors’ and friends’ Christmas trees for the holidays. When her grandchildren were born in 1999 and 2008, she spent a lot of time showering them with love. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for them, along with everyone else she came in contact with throughout her lifetime.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Saturday, September 13, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, at Corrottoman Baptist Church in Ottoman, with burial to follow at the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Virginia Healthcare Hospice.
On behalf of the family, we would like to thank Currie Funeral Home, Corrottoman Baptist Church, Pastor Seltzer and Virginia Healthcare Hospice for their support during this time of need.
Repast will be held immediately after the service at Corrottoman Baptist Church Cemetery.
