Barbara L. Jenkins

Barbara L. Jenkins

LANCASTER—On Friday, May 3, 2019, Barbara L. Jenkins, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at her home in Lancaster at the age of 71.

Barbara was born on January 7, 1948, in Washington, D.C., to James and Joanne (Palmer) Lundquist. She graduated from Wakefield High School in Arlington in 1966. In the fall of 1974 she was accepted at Howard University in the dental hygienist program. She spent her years working, raising a family, volunteering, keeping foster babies and maintaining an active role in her church.

In 1990, she decided to go back to school and pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. Her hard work paid off and she became a Registered Nurse in 1995.

Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, James “Jimmy” Lundquist; her sister, Rebecca “Becky” Akscyn; and her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Lee Jenkins Jr.; her brother, John Lundquist; her children, Joanne Marshall, Tara Rose, Mike Holland and Jason Holland; her stepchildren, Amanda Scott, Amy Sinclair and Randall Jenkins; her nephew, Robert Akscyn; her nieces, Melissa and Jenna Lundquist; her grandchildren, Brandon, Alyssa, Justin, Lyndsay, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Mikey, Josh, Caleb, Alana, Alivia, James, Wallace and Holly; and her eight great-grandchildren, the ninth to arrive in October.

Barbara was a truly kind person, giving of herself whenever and wherever she could. She was a devout Christian who not only lived by the word but spread the word as she traveled on many missionary trips.

In her spare time she enjoyed reading, needlepoint, crocheting and keeping up with her many grandchildren.

A memorial service was held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock.
