KILMARNOCK—It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Barbara Pates Frisbie, who left the world peacefully on August 6, 2022, in Kilmarnock.
Barbara was born June 21, 1941, in Washington D.C., to Bill and Pauline Pates. She spent her youth living in Paris, while her father was stationed in France. Barbara was a graduate of Randolph-Macon Women’s College in 1963. She obtained her master’s in French literature from American University. A high school French teacher, she loved the Alliance Français.
She was a devoted wife, mother and friend. “Babs” was always positive, joyous and enthusiastic, no matter the circumstances. She enjoyed playing tennis and bridge with her many friends. An avid reader, Barbara rarely went a week without completing a book. She loved her many literary clubs.
Barbara was deeply involved with the Kreeger Museum, the Junior League, Daughters of the American Revolution and many local organizations.
She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Rick Frisbie Sr.; her sons, Rick Frisbie Jr. and Bill Frisbie; and her grandchildren, Drake, Luke, Charlotte and Noelle. Barbara met and fell in love with Rick while in college. She dearly missed her deceased daughter-in-law, Rick Jr.’s wife, Alexa.
There will be a burial service at Columbia Gardens in Arlington, and a memorial service in Kilmarnock. Information for times and dates will be provided by the family shortly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, www.fusfoundation.org/donate/.
Her family will forever profoundly miss her shining light.
Currie Funeral Home LLC of Kilmarnock handled the arrangements.
