The courtside announcer had no idea how right he was when he told fans at the start of the Lancaster versus Northampton varsity basketball game that “your ticket price got you a full seat…but you’ll only need part of it because you’ll be on the edge of your seats all night.”
Fans were just that as the two teams battled to a one-point Lancaster victory, 65-64, after multiple second-half lead changes and three game winning free throws by Daveon Smith.
The defending Class 1 state champion Red Devils opened the season Friday, December 1, at home against a scrappy, fast and defensively strong Northampton team that was hoping to break Lancaster’s undefeated run.
The game opened and ended on double technical fouls. Both teams drew techs during the warm ups….
