BURGESS—Betty Bryant Newsome, 80, was born to Emmett and Charlotte Bryant on October 15, 1942. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She passed away to be with the Lord on Friday, November 5, 2022.
Betty was educated in the public schools of Northumberland County.
In 1960, James T. Newsome and she were united in holy matrimony and their union was blessed with four children, Julie, Lisa, Talmadge and Emmett.
Betty and James shared a love and passion for life. They loved their family, community, and the Lord. In 1982, Betty and James opened their first restaurant in Burgess, a business that is still owned and operated in Burgess under the ownership of their son and their daughter-in-law, Talmadge and Casey Newsome.
Betty leaves cherished memories with her beloved husband of 62 years, James T. Newsome; four children, Julie Rew (Mike), Lisa Newsome, Talmadge Newsome (Casey) and Emmett Newsome (Dana); seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; three siblings; two sisters, Barbara Simpson and Emily Haynie, and one brother, Butch Bryant; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Betty Bryant Newsome was held at noon, Tuesday, November 8, at the Fairport Baptist Church, 2395 Fairport Road, Reedville, where Rev. Dave Schneider is pastor, and Rev. Neale School, eulogist.
In lieu of flowers, family and friends may donate to the Hospice of Virginia, 1924 Tappahannock Boulevard, Tappahannock, VA 22560; or to The Hope Foundation, Hospice Partners of America, 3021 Lorna Road, Birmingham, AL 35222, to honor Betty B. Newsome.
