TOPPING—It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Betty R. Miller on January 28, 2022.

Betty was born in Middlesex County on October 5, 1950, to Gill and Elfleda Rector. She was a graduate of Middlesex High School, Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management in Charlottesville, and the School of Banking at Louisiana State University. 

Upon graduation from high school, she began her 47-year banking career with the Bank of Middlesex in Urbanna. Leaving the bank in 1985, she worked for several mortgage companies before returning as branch manager of Southside Bank in Urbanna in 1994. In September 2011, she was promoted as a market manager of EVB Bank, overseeing eight branches. She retired as a senior vice president on December 1, 2015. 

Betty joined the Kiwanis Club of Middlesex in May of 1995, becoming the first female in the club. She served as president from October 1, 2002 to September 30, 2003 and was a recipient of the Hixson Fellowship Award on September 28, 2015.  She served on the Middlesex County Industrial Development Authority from March 1, 1998 to October 20, 2005.

Betty loved traveling, playing golf, spending time on the water, and spending time with her husband, family and friends. She especially liked dining at Eckhard’s at least once a week. 

Betty was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Jimmie Rector.

Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 26 years, Charles B. “Birdseed” Miller Jr.; sister, Jean R. Hill and her husband, James; sisters-in-law, Ceil Rector and Becky Sibley; brother-in-law, Billy Mayo (Nancy); niece, Sherry Hudnall (Bobby); and great nieces, Megan George (Bobby) and Brooke Hudnall (Nick).

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Hartfield VFD, P.O. Box 205, Hartfield, VA 23071; or the Middlesex Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 98, Deltaville, VA 23043.

A Memorial Service is planned for some time in the spring.

Faulkner Funeral Homes, Bristow-Faulkner Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
