Beulah Baptist Church, Lively, recently celebrated its 150th anniversary.
Beulah Baptist Church opened its doors for the first time, September 1, 1868. 150 years ago, Jesse Wiggins, a colored freedman, was licensed to preach and led the colored members of the Lebanon Baptist Church, Alphonso, to request a letter of dismissal.
It was a time for celebration then and a time for celebration again September 1 and 2, 2018, reported church clerk and anniversary committee chairperson Carole Kelley.
Beulah celebrated for one year leading up to the actual anniversary day. The year-long celebration began with a prayer breakfast in September 2017, continued Kelley. Former pastor, Rev. Ronald Dunaway was the guest preacher for the service.
The celebration continued with a gospel singing and color march in January 2018, followed by an “Old Time Religion Revival” in May 2018…
