BGCNN teens explore careers and colleges with community partners

The CareerLaunch program that highlighted the summer for 14 teens at the Boys & Girls Club of the Northern Neck (BGCNN) was celebrated recently with a dinner for parents.

For the teens who participated, there were certificates and $200 checks in recognition of their commitment to exploring their own great futures through regular attendance.

Eight weeks earlier, they had signed contracts to fully participate in CareerLaunch, a national program championed by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The job-readiness program was revamped and refreshed this year for a Northern Neck-specific experience. The career exploration schedule was led locally by Jamea Carter, BGCNN’s education director at its Lancaster County site in Kilmarnock.

Donna Anderson, a member of BGCNN’s board for the last 15 years, served as the youths’ adult advisor and coordinator for the speakers and business tours.
