On Sunday, November 17, the captain of a power boat on fire in the Chesapeake Bay near Windmill Point was pulled from the vessel by a nearby sailboater and transported to Windmill Point Marina by U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliarists. There he was cleared by emergency medical services. According to a U.S. Coast Guard Station Cape Charles Facebook post, they responded to the call about 1:45 p.m. The crew of CG 45669 stood by for approximately two hours until the boat sank. Officials issued a big thank you to the Good Samaritan, Auxiliarists Mary and Jim McCoig for treating the distressed mariner and handing off to EMS, and all other assisting agencies.
