Brothers depart on around-the-world sail

Friends and family on Saturday, November 12, wished bon voyage to Eddy and Dean Tennant as they prepared to cast off from Regatta Point Marina in Deltaville on a worldwide adventure. On Saturday, November 12, brothers Eddy and Dean Tennant departed from Regatta Point Marina in Deltaville and set out on the ultimate adventure: Around the world on their 44-foot 1974 Reliance sailboat, Thunderstriker.

Dean, 19, and Eddy, 18, grew up in Kilmarnock and have been sailing their entire lives.

“My first steps were on a sailboat,” said Dean.

Although the Tennant family relocated to Charlottesville several years ago, they kept their sailboat in Deltaville and often returned for a sail around the Chesapeake Bay.

Naturally inclined to explore, the two brothers originally joked about sailing around the globe. After toying with potential routes and other ideas, the duo decided to make the dream a reality.

“During COVID we were working on a boat and saw another one for sale and said ‘you know, we could buy that and sail around the world….
