Buccaneers pull the plug on Lancaster win streak, 43-37

A West Virginia team on December 30 ended Lancaster High School’s long-standing varsity basketball winning streak. Buckhannon-Upshur, which would be equivalent to a Class 4 team in Virginia, beat the Red Devils, 43-37, in the championship game of the 2023 Ram Hardwood Classic at Strasburg High School.

The loss marked the end of the Devils’ winning streak, 36-1. Lancaster went undefeated as the state champion last year and had gotten off to a 7-0 start this year before facing the Buccaneers. 

Lancaster had advanced to the final of the three-day tournament with a 64-62 win over Region D’s Class 4 Sherando in the quarterfinals December 28 then blew out host Strasburg, 70-38, in the semifinals December 29. 

The Devils are now 7-1 and open Northern Neck District play at….
