Buxton named executive director of Reedville Fishermen’s Museum

Reedville Fishermen’s Museum (RFM) began the new year on a positive note with Liz Buxton assuming the role of executive director on January 3.

Buxton grew up on the water in Gloucester County and Urbanna and has visited Reedville many times, often sailing from Gloucester and even Norfolk. She recalls seeing the Reedville Independence Day parade early on and later bringing her own children.

“I like the fact that Reedville has kept its basic nature unchanged,” she said.

Buxton graduated from the College of Charleston with a bachelor’s in fine arts focused on architectural history and historic preservation. She coordinated the historic district in Shelbyville, Ky., and also served as executive director of Historic Wilmington Foundation in North Carolina. She was executive director of South River Federation and of Valley’s Planning Council in Maryland.
