WHITE STONE—Captain Richard Thomas “Ricky” Hinson of White Stone was born on August 29, 1959, and went to be with the Lord on November 2, 2025.
A native of the Northern Neck and a 1977 graduate of Lancaster High School, Ricky carried a deep love for his hometown and the waters that shaped his life.
For more than 45 years, he served as a tugboat captain, guiding vessels safely while mentoring countless others who shared his passion for the sea. His calm presence, steady hand and dedication earned him the respect of all who worked alongside him. On his time off the boat, he’d head back to the water to fish, ride his motorcycle or cheer on his beloved Dallas Cowboys. No matter what he did he always brought joy to everyone around him.
Ricky was a devoted husband, whose love for his wife, Nancy, was the foundation of his life. Together for 43 years, they shared laughter, adventures and unwavering support for one another through every season of life.
Ricky was a loving and supportive father to his daughter, Rachel. He guided her with patience, wisdom and humor, always encouraging her to follow her dreams and lead with integrity. His unwavering support and quiet strength shaped the person she has become, and his love will remain a guiding light in her life.
He is lovingly survived by his wife of 43 years, Nancy Talley Hinson; his daughter, Rachel Elizabeth Hinson, and her fiancé, Patrick W. Mullen III; and his cherished grand-dog, Skye.
He is also survived by his mother, Jacqueline Jones Hinson; his brother, Alan Keith Hinson (Joanne); and his sister, Sheri Hinson George. He was a proud uncle to Jessie Hinson Freeze (Doug), Taylor Hinson Deihl (Trevor) and Franklin Kody George.
Ricky was preceded in death by his father, Richard Cleveland Hinson; his brother, Donald Alvin Hinson; and his nephew, Jonathan Cleveland George.
Two services celebrating Ricky’s life will be held in remembrance. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, November 7, at Reveille United Methodist Church.
