KILMARNOCK—Cecil Barnett “Sonny” Whaley Jr., 74, of Kilmarnock passed away October 21, 2022. He retired as supervisor in Waste Management and Recycling for Lancaster County.
He is survived by his wife of 54 wonderful years, Peggy S. Whaley; son, Michael Scott Whaley (Jennipher); daughter, Stacey Michele Whaley; grandchildren, Emily Whaley, Jackson Whaley, India Veney, Kayla Veney and Nazir Veney; great-grandson, Bryan Hayes; sisters, Pam Chapman and Debbie Yerby; brothers, Ray Whaley (Sandy) and Todd Whaley (Britt); just like a son, John Davenport; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil B. Whaley Sr. and Thelma Bryant Wood.
Sonny served his country and his community. He was in the Army for three years, a member of the Kilmarnock-Lancaster Rescue Squad where he served as captain, cemetery committee for Kilmarnock Baptist Church, and his heart and soul was working for the Food Bank. He was also an organ donor.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend who was very well respected by all and he never met a stranger.
A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, November 12, at his residence, 142 Boathouse Cove, Kilmarnock.
