
Grace Episcopal Church, 303 South Main Street, Kilmarnock, will host a Celtic service on Sunday, January 12. Music will begin at 5:20 p.m. and the service will follow at 5:30 p.m.
The music and readings have been chosen to celebrate the return of the “Sun’s light to Earth,” reported Laura Rowe. The Celtic festivals marked the lunar and solar cycles because these seasons influenced the plantings and the harvests.
“Today we mark the return of light to the land, just after the Winter Solstice during which the sun’s appearance has been short for many days,” said Rowe. “In the Christian church the Epiphany is celebrated at this time.
