Charges dismissed in 2018 drive-by shooting

LANCASTER—A pair of Lancaster men were tried Wednesday, June 9, in Lancaster County Circuit Court on charges stemming from a March 10, 2018, drive-by shooting that occurred on Mary Ball Road outside of Kilmarnock. Hon. R. Michael McKenney dismissed all related charges against Kemonte D. Smith and Jonta A. Towles, citing the lack of credibility of a key eyewitness.

Smith was charged with eight felonies: Four counts of attempted murder, one felony for conspiracy to commit murder, one felony for abduction by force, one felony for shooting into an occupied vehicle, and one felony for using a firearm in a felony.

Towles was charged with four counts of attempted murder, one felony for conspiracy to commit murder, one felony for abduction by force, one felony for shooting into an occupied vehicle, one felony for using a firearm in the commission of a felony, and one felony for being a felon in possession of a gun.
