Charles A. “Fred” Carlson

Charles A. “Fred” Carlson

RUCKERSVILLE—Charles Alfred “Fred” Carlson was born the first day of spring, March 20, 1946, in Richmond and left us on October 15, 2020, peacefully at home in Ruckersville, surrounded by family after a five-year battle with cancer.

Fred was a lifelong hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed playing golf at every opportunity. He grew up in the Northern Neck area, attending Old Dominion University after graduating from Lancaster High School. He was a member of Remo Hunt Club for many years before moving to Charlottesville in 2006 to work for Southern States. He took great pride in creating beautiful floral landscapes, along with fruit and vegetable gardens around his home.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty S. Carlson; and his children, Dawn C. Trotter and husband, Troy Trotter, Tiffany C. Vann and husband, Troy Vann, and Joseph S. Carlson; his father, Charles N. Carlson; mother, Laverne Carlson; brothers, Carl and Steve Carlson; sisters, Renee Carlson-Coleman and Candy Carlson; two grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.

There will be a celebration of life at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 24, at Morattico Baptist Church, 924 Morattico Church Road, Kilmarnock. In lieu of flowers, we ask you to choose a charity of your choice to support.
