Charles “Charley” V. Gillmer

Charles “Charley” V. Gillmer

REEDVILLE—Charles Voit “Charley” Gillmer passed away peacefully at his home in Reedville on March 21, 2026. He was 83.

Charley was a proud Marine, an avid reader, a history buff and true lover of all that the Chesapeake Bay had to offer. He found joy in, on and around the water—boating, fishing, crabbing and carefully tending to his peeler tank for soft crabs. His connection to the bay was a defining part of who he was, and he lived his life with a deep appreciation for its beauty and traditions.

He was beloved by his family and friends and will be remembered for his strength, warmth and the simple, meaningful life he built along the water.

Charley was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Maureen Gillmer (2021); and his son, Matthew Gillmer (2014).

He is survived by his daughter, Melissa “Missy” Console and her husband, Bryan Console; his sons, Jeffrey Gordon and his wife, Shelbi, and Andy Gordon; his granddaughter, Hailey Mangano and her husband, Dominic; and granddaughters, Piper Gordon, Charley Gordon, Kennett Gordon and Aspen Gordon; and his great-granddaughter, Ramsey Mangano.

Charley’s legacy lives on in the love he gave, the memories he created and the waters he cherished so deeply.

A memorial celebration of Charley’s life will be announced at a later date.
